Oct. 18 March for the Public Option

Disclaimer: I'm in no way affiliated with this event - a college classmate's father is putting this event together.

For those of you in the Pacific Northwest, there's going to be a march for a STRONG Public Option on Oct. 18. The march does have an official permit from the City of Portland, and it will be kicking off at noon on SW 1st between Salmon and Taylor in Portland.

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to find out about this event - I've wondered for a while why we haven't seen more marches and the like to combat the lies and misinformation touted by insurance companies and spread by Republicans politicians and their ilk. Especially given September's un- and underemployment numbers, the need for a public option is more pronounced than ever.

The website for the group is available here. There is also a Facebook group (the link is available at the above website). Join and invite your friends, family, co-workers, etc. I'm in Southern California and unable to attend, but my hope is that I can get a few people from this community to go so that we can show Congress and the media that, despite what they think, the public option is what America wants.

For those who cannot wait until Oct. 18 and want to take a more active role, there is also a meeting Oct. 5 (this coming Monday) at 6:30 p.m. Information on location is available here.

And if anyone else would want to try and stage a similar event in Southern California, I'd love to help organize.
